Week 19: Showcasing Financial Growth through Savings Presentations

Objective: The essence of this week is to provide students with an opportunity to articulate and showcase their journey in developing a savings habit, highlighting their achievements, learning experiences, and future financial goals. Through structured presentations, students will reflect on the importance of savings, the process of goal setting, and the fundamentals of financial planning. This culminating activity is designed to foster a culture of sharing and learning from each other’s experiences, promoting an environment of mutual encouragement and inspiration in the pursuit of financial literacy.

Activities Overview:

Student-Led Savings Showcase: A Reflection of Growth

Description: Each student will prepare and deliver a presentation on their personal savings journey, detailing the strategies they employed, the challenges they encountered, the achievements they’ve celebrated, and their aspirations for future financial growth. This activity is an empowering platform for students to voice their experiences and insights into the practice of saving.
Objective: To encourage introspection and articulate expression regarding personal financial management, enhancing students’ confidence in their ability to set and achieve financial goals.
Materials Needed: Presentation tools such as poster boards for visual aids or digital presentation software for a more dynamic display of their savings journey.

Reflective Lesson on Savings: Understanding Its Core Value

Description: A structured lesson plan focusing on the critical aspects of savings, goal setting, and financial planning. This session will serve as a reflective space for students to grasp the long-term benefits of saving, beyond the immediate gratification of spending.
Objective: To reinforce the foundational principles of financial literacy, emphasizing the significance of savings in achieving financial security and realizing personal dreams.
Materials Needed: Educational resources that highlight successful savings strategies and real-life examples of effective financial planning.

“My Savings Journey” Worksheet: Mapping Future Aspirations

Description: Students will be guided to fill out the “My Savings Journey” worksheet, which prompts them to reflect on their past savings efforts and to articulate their future savings goals. This structured reflection encourages students to think critically about their financial habits and to plan with intention.

Description: “Save It!” will be introduced to students as a source of inspiration and guidance on the journey of saving. The book offers accessible concepts and relatable scenarios that encourage children to save for their dreams and aspirations.
Objective: To motivate students about the power of saving, providing them with a literary example that underscores the value of financial discipline in realizing personal goals.
Materials Needed: Copies of “Save It!” for classroom reading and discussion.

Presentation Skills and Feedback: Enhancing Peer Learning

Description: Alongside the focus on savings, students will also learn about effective presentation skills and the art of giving and receiving constructive feedback. A presentation rubric and guidelines will be provided to ensure that feedback sessions are structured, supportive, and beneficial for both the presenter and the audience.
Objective: To develop students’ communication skills and foster a supportive learning environment where students can benefit from constructive peer feedback.
Materials Needed: Presentation rubric and guidelines for providing constructive feedback, designed to facilitate a respectful and enriching feedback process.

Implementation Strategy:

Preparation: Educators will prepare by gathering necessary materials, organizing the logistics of the presentation session, and ensuring students have access to the required tools for their presentations. Additionally, teachers will guide students in the preparation of their presentations, offering support and feedback as needed.
Execution: The week will be structured to allow for presentation preparation, the delivery of reflective lessons on savings, and the actual presentation sessions. Each presentation will be followed by a feedback session, guided by the provided rubric and guidelines.
