Week 14: Interactive Budgeting Game

Objectives:

Engage students in a dynamic budgeting simulation, teaching them to navigate various financial scenarios with skill and insight.

Activities:

Budgeting Game: The class will be transformed into a lively simulation where students undertake the challenge of managing a budget amidst fluctuating scenarios, mimicking real-life financial situations.

Lesson Plan:

Dive deep into the essence of budgeting through an engaging game that simulates unexpected financial twists and turns. This interactive session aims to solidify students’ understanding of budgeting, emphasizing the unpredictability and the necessity of strategic planning in managing finances.

Worksheets:

Students will be equipped with “scenario cards,” each detailing a unique financial circumstance or challenge. These cards serve as the foundation for the budgeting exercises, compelling students to think critically and make strategic decisions based on their given situations.

Book List:

A reading session featuring “Sheep in a Shop” by Nancy Shaw will provide a lighthearted and relatable narrative on shopping and budgeting, effectively connecting with the theme of the week.

Tools & Equipment:

An immersive board game or a digital budgeting simulation will be the centerpiece of the week’s activities. This interactive tool is designed to offer a hands-on experience in financial planning and decision-making, making the learning process both fun and impactful.

Toys & Materials:

The use of mock currency and dice will bring a tangible element to the game, allowing students to experience the randomness of financial scenarios and the impact of their budgeting decisions in a controlled, playful environment.

Alongside scenario cards, students will have access to budget templates designed to guide them through the process of allocating resources and adjusting plans in response to various scenarios. These materials aim to provide a comprehensive understanding of budget management in an engaging, game-based context.

Rewati Raman Vishewar, M.Ed., is an experienced education professional with over 23 years of experience in the education sector. He has worked for private education companies as well as in the NGO/Government sector. His active area of work is focused on preschool to primary grades, with a strong emphasis on curriculum development, teacher training, assessment, and research. Several Universities (Delhi University, Jamia Millia Islamia, MS University, Ambedkar University Delhi et al.) have accepted his research to be presented at Conferences. In his recent research, he studied the efficacy of assessment and feedback mechanisms in early childhood care and education (ECCE) across India for the Square Panda Foundation (submitted to the Ministry of Women & Child Development, India). He also reviewed the ECCE curriculum of Bodh Shiksha Samiti, the adolescent curriculum (ECCE to primary grades) of Doosra Dashak, and the ICDS curriculum of all States of India. His review of ICDS Curriculum of Bihar was accepted for presentation at the ECCE Conference of Ambedkar University Delhi. Raman has provided curriculum development, teacher training, and assessment services to premium private preschools. He has also conducted a six-month research project (unpublished) into a multi-grade, multi-level curriculum by conducting classes at SDMC Primary (Govt.) School, where children from underprivileged/low socio-economic families study. With his extensive experience and expertise, Raman is committed to making a positive impact in the education sector by improving curriculum, training teachers, and conducting research to ensure the best outcomes for students.
