Week 10: Creating Personal Piggy Banks

Activities:

Craft Session: Lead a craft session where students create their own personal piggy banks using recycled materials, fostering creativity and personal responsibility for saving money.
Discussion on Saving: Facilitate a discussion on the importance of saving money and the role of piggy banks in achieving savings goals.

Lesson Plan:

Encouraging Savings Habits: Teach students the importance of saving money regularly and introduce the concept of using piggy banks as a tool for saving.
Personal Finance Skills: Reinforce the value of thriftiness and responsible money management, encouraging students to develop positive saving habits from a young age.

Worksheets:

Design Your Piggy Bank: Provide a planning sheet where students can sketch and design their own personalized piggy banks before creating them during the craft session.

Book List:

“The Berenstain Bears’ Trouble with Money” by Stan and Jan Berenstain: Share a story about the Berenstain Bear family’s experiences with earning, saving, and spending money, teaching valuable lessons about financial responsibility.

Tools & Equipment:

Recyclable Materials: Provide a variety of recyclable materials such as cardboard boxes, plastic bottles, and jars for students to use in creating their piggy banks.

Toys & Materials:

Paint and Glue: Offer paint, glue, and decorating materials for students to personalize and decorate their piggy banks during the craft session.
