Karnataka has brought its previously unregulated pre-primary sector under formal oversight. From 2025, registration with the Department of School Education & Literacy is mandatory for private preschools — spanning play schools, pre-nursery, Montessori, kindergarten and similar centres — and unregistered centres risk being treated as illegal.
